Lunch Under the Trees and Zoom Classes

Fall greetings!  Aren’t these cool mornings wonderful?  Hope you can go for some morning walks and enjoy the beauty around you.

We look forward to seeing you at noon on Tuesday, October 5th for our Lunch Under the Trees! Please let us know if you are coming so we can plan the drinks and dessert.  In case of rain, the church has given us permission to use the dining room, so if we aren’t under the trees, we will be inside.  Please wear your masks.

Also, please email us ASAP if you want to participate in one or both of our Zoom classes that start on October 5th and 6th.

TAKING AIM:  HOW HOLLYWOOD CONQUERED THE WEST taught by Larry Brown at 10:00 on Wednesdays, Begins October 6, Ends October 27, Approximately an hour long
If you love Western movies, come ride along as we watch video samplings from some of Hollywood’s greatest Westerns.  Go behind the scenes and learn how the great filmmakers crafted and projected their visions onto the big screen. This class will be big on entertainment but also strong in its exploration of the Western as a distinctively American film genre. Larry loves Hollywood Westerns and has taught this class via Zoom recently. It was a rousing success!

COFFEE MATES Led by Susan Raybourne at 10:00 on Tuesdays, Begins October 5, Ends October 26 (or at the class’s discretion)
What a great opportunity to have a copy of coffee or tea and just visit with friends you probably haven’t had the opportunity to see in quite a while!  You can share what you’ve been doing these past months, ask for friendly advice, share cute stories, tell jokes, or whatever your heart desires. Those folks who took part in our Coffee and Conversation on Wednesday mornings at Shepherd’s Center really enjoyed getting together every week, so we know you will want to join in the fun. The length of the class will be determined by those who take part.

The total cost for one or both classes will be $20.If you would like to take part in either or both, send us a note including your name, email address, phone number, and a check for $20.  The host/hostess will be in touch with you about the details.  Please mail your check to:

The Shepherd’s Center of Columbia is one of about a hundred centers across the country which are affiliated with the Shepherd’s Center of America.

Grounded in the 23rd Psalm, this interfaith organization was founded as a means for older adults to continue to stretch their horizons, be contributing members of society, and help each other. It supplements the work of local congregations, providing opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. The members are the planners and leaders of all programs.

The Shepherd’s Center is open to all persons, but focuses on those who are age 50+. It is intercultural, interfaith, and interracial.

We welcome you to become a part of our schedule of activities. We provide classes on many topics, so we feel you will find something of interest to you. You may visit one time before becoming a member.

We appreciate that Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, 3401 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204 provides meeting space for our classes.

Class registration cost is $35.00 per session, which allows you to take as many classes as your time will allow. You are welcome to join any class with an available chair. Feel free to change your schedule if you find a class does not suit you.

A weekly newsletter, the Shepherd’s Staff, is published each week class is in session. It contains updates on luncheon speakers, lunch menus, current class updates and other news. Pick up your copy from the lobby upon arrival. Also check the board for last minute changes in scheduling.
