In honor of memorial day, we celebrated with a performance by 282nd Woodwind Quintet of the Fort Jackson Army Band.


Adam Humphries from SCDOT shared many details about upcoming improvements to our roads.


Joe Lemeris, GIS & Data Manager from SC Department of Natural Resources shared with us many details about what is involved when managing and tracking the rich and beautiful nature in our lovely state of South Carolina.


We had the please of listening to the beautiful voice of Michele Robinson accompanied by Richard McLeod on the piano. We were fortunate to listen to a delightful array of several tunes from Broadway musicals.


The Friendship

We learned a lot about The Friendship, a local organization that helps older adults lead independent lives.

Plus, we celebrate 2 birthdays: Sig, and Kay.


David Gregg Hodges author of the Sunset Lodge in Georgetown – The Story of a Madam will tell us about his well-known book. I was delightful to hear about this interesting bit of South Carolina history.


April 16 – SENIOR SKIP DAY!

Because Richland One School district was on Spring Break, we had to skip our classes. But we will still gathered together over lunch and had lots of fun. We had a chance to meet new folks, other members that we may not see in our usual classes.

We had a great  potluck lunch with a wide variety of delightful flavors; sandwiches, dips & chips, casseroles and delicious desserts.  We also played some fun games:  Name That Tune, Who Am I?, and a contest for the most outrageous hat.  The winner showcased at motion to save the butterflies by avoiding plastics in the environment.  Created by Nancee Shillington-Perez and modeled by Linda Brennison.


Ken Cheeks is contemporary saxophonist and a retired master teacher. Ken released a new solo CD entitled “Songs in The Key of Praise” in the Spring of 2018. We enjoyed the great talent by this local artist.


Strolling through Sesquicentennial State Park as an Interpretive Ranger. Learn about the cultural and natural history and resources available to park visitors.

We learned about the many features the park has including a campground, a boat house, a splash pad, walking trails.



Led by Jill Knat, several folks spent the past 9 weeks learning the skill of playing the spoons. On March 5, they shared their new talent with a musical performance for us. We were entertained, and inspired with the rhythmic tunes they presented.

Will Mundhenke, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resource State Naturalist takes us on a walk through the woods of South Carolina. This was such a fascinating talk; we learned about wildlife, fisheries, forests, and plants, as well as land and water and cultural resources.


Amy Wright, Landscape Design Technician of the City of Columbia Forestry and Beautification Department, tells us about all of the many landscaping, tree planting, and floral projects we see around our beautiful city and what more to expect.

  Lucinda Statler, Planning Administrator for the City of Columbia presented information about what’s happening with current and future design projects of the City of Columbia.



The Bridge Trio featuring Pianist Anna Hamilton, Violist Karen Peters, and Violinist Kathy Paget, played for us a variety of delightful music from composers Frank Bridge and George Frederick Handel along with traditional English fiddle tunes. These very talented musicians performed “sweet music to our ears.”



Rick Wrigley and Our Generation Radio takes you back to the heyday of music radio with “Music, Memories, and More”. Rick’s Backbeat Show is old style radio just as we remember it. His listeners are transported back to the “Top 40” sound that WAS radio in the late ’50’s through the mid ’70s.
